PARKing Day 2017!

September 15, 2017 was a bright and sunny day – a great day to celebrate PARKing Day! PARKing Day is an annual worldwide event that transforms parking spaces into mini-parks or public spaces for one day.

The Anacostia Park and Community Collaborative was invited to participate in Parking Day this year in the District of Columbia, alongside the DC Department of Transportation’s Urban Forestry division and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association. For six hours, people passing down Minnesota Ave NE were able to interact with APACC members and learn more about what we do in Wards 7 and 8.

I was excited to have this opportunity to inform, interact and engage with residents about APACC and the Anacostia Park. We provided flyers, surveys and some light refreshments for visitors, and we asked visitors what they most enjoyed about Anacostia Park. Parking Day was a fantastic way to connect residents with the natural public space from the biking trails to the Anacostia Park!
