Skill Up: Become a Sustainable Cities Expert (Free)
If you are reading this post, you must be at least mildly interested in learning more about sustainability. Best case, you are interested in learning and participating in efforts to make DC more sustainable now and into the future!
The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network SDG Academy's Sustainable Cities MOOC (massive open online course) is a good way to skill-up. Over the 14-week free course which starts May 31, students will learn about how and why cities serve as centers of cultural and social transformation, how urban systems function, ways to reduce urban poverty and make cities inclusive and safe, making cities productive and reduce inequality, improving human development, ensuring the universality of services and infrastructure, (including the environment and transportation), ways to protect and make resilient urban environments, and ways to implement sustainability, from the citizenry to government.
Global thought leaders and practitioners will teach each module. Their goal is "to equip participants with an interdisciplinary understanding of contemporary thinking on, and practices related to Sustainable Cities."
Students will learn via "pre-recorded lectures, readings, live webinars, quizzes, discussion forums, and other activities," all of which can be completed at a time an individual student finds convenient. A digital certificate of completion will be given to students who successfully complete the course.
And did we mention the course is free?
