The free event is DC's all-day urban gardening forum providing education about urban agriculture and food systems, cultivating health and protection of the environment, and building community. There will be panel discussions, interactive workshops, and cooking and food preservation demonstrations. Registration is now open.

Policy-related workshops include:

  • SNAPShot: Entry Points and Barriers to Securing SNAP Benefits
  • Building Equitable Food Systems through Food Policy
  • Stay Connected: Keeping Food Policy Rooted in Community
  • Black Farmers, Policy and the 2018 Farm Bill
  • DC’s RiverSmart Homes Program: 10 years and beyond
  • Advancing Racial Equity through Urban Agriculture

And given the great work of individuals and organizations east of the Anacostia River, it's no surprise that Nathan Harrington of the Committee to Restore Shepherd Parkway is leading the

Urban Woodlands in DC workshop or that Thurgood Marshall Public Charter School's Sara Carnochan is leading the session Growing Young Adults at Thurgood Marshall’s School Garden.
