  • Organizing to Defend the Environment, April 11: Join others interested in fighting back the unprecedented attacks on the environment and the EPA at this Women’s Information Network interactive workshop. Attendees will discuss and strategize how individuals can effectively advocate on issues like environmental justice, protection of national monuments, political interference in policy making, and DMV-local environmental issues. Through breakout groups, we will learn from experts on grassroots mobilization, science, and effective advocacy to come up with strategies for fighting attacks on the environment.   • Leaders in Energy Green Career Momentum Program, April 19: Are you at a crossroads as you consider your next career move in the green economy?  Have you been inspired by green industry professionals you’ve met at area events? Is this your year to land the green job you’ve been dreaming about? Green Career Momentum (GCM) is an ongoing career development program and job network for those seeking new jobs and related opportunities. The program will feature speakers who are working in the green career arena, career coaches, recruiters, etc. We will also conduct experiential exercises to help people gain insights into their job search and collaborate with one another. The program is tailored to assist job seekers at all levels and provide a supportive environment. The inaugural event is Thursday, April 19, 2018, 12:00 – 1:00 pm ($15 Regular; $10 Early Bird until 4/12). It features Cheryl Bedard, Principal, The McCormick Group, who recruits job candidates in the energy field. Learn more and register.
     
  • New social justice employment resource: Social Impact Jobs for Entry Level Folks is a new Facebook group designed to help graduating college students and recent grads make the jump from unpaid internships to paid job positions in social justice-relevant work (including sustainable cities, food/environmental justice, and the like - basically anything that is focused on helping humankind). If your organization has full-time ENTRY-LEVEL jobs or PAID internships in social-justice type fields to offer, join this group! If you are looking for a job, join the group now.
     
  • 2018 Earth Day Celebration: The College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability and Environmental Sciences at the University of the District of Columbia is celebrating Earth Day at one of its food sites in Ward 7. The college is having a volunteering day at the East Capitol Urban Farms in Ward 7 and it provides healthy foods. The event will take place will at 5901 East Capitol Street SE.   • Itchin' to learn something new? Try a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course). There's edX. They have professors from, to name only a few, Harvard, Berkley, Georgia Tech, Sorbonne, and McGill. EdX offers a wide range of courses, from science and math to the humanities. And they are free. Then there's Coursera. They, too, offer a range of courses taught by professors from top schools across the planet. Not free but ridiculously inexpensive. And OpenCulture aggregates course lists from several MOOC systems to make searching for just the right course easier.
