3rd Annual Student Forum and Career Fair, Friday, October 12: Current college students or recent graduates at all levels (undergraduates, graduates, etc.) are encouraged to attend the forum and fair, Friday October 12, 11:00 am - 4:00 pm at the OPM Theodore Roosevelt Building (1900 E St NW). People may participate in person and online. In person, participants may attend resume review sessions, the career fair, and the main event. In person attendance is capped so register soon.
Workforce Wednesday, October 3: The Department of Employment Services (DOES) can help DC residents receive training and prepare for their dream job. Visit the American Job Center to learn about American Job Center services and register for free industry recognized occupational skills training. DOES can assist with jobs and skills such as: Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Commercial Driver's License, and construction trades.
Disaster Insurance and Preparedness Seminar, October 15: DC Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency and the Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking are hosting the seminar to help business owners be better prepared for disasters, understand the types of insurance coverage available and which is best for you and your business. Registration is required.
Free Immigration Consultation Clinic, October 5: Ayuda is hosting this clinic at the Honduran Consulate. Potential clients can be seen regardless of where they live.

BPA exposure in U.S.-approved levels may alter insulin response in non-diabetic adults: “In a first study of its kind study, researchers have found that a common chemical consumers are exposed to several times a day may be altering insulin release. Results of the study, led by scientists at the University of Missouri, indicate that the Food and Drug Administration-approved "safe" daily exposure amount of BPA may be enough to have implications for the development of Type 2 diabetes and other metabolic diseases.” (University of Missouri)
Summary of Drug Early Warning from Re-Testing Biological Samples: Maryland Hospital Study:
At a time when drug overdoses are becoming more prevalent and lethal, a new report provides a snapshot of regional illicit drug use and, for the first time, highlights the complexity of detecting and treating patients at hospital emergency departments for a severe drug-related event.
The objective of CESAR's study, which began in 2016, was to identify illicit drugs that caused overdoses in patients at two hospital emergency departments in Maryland.
Emergency physicians were battling a spike in accidental drug overdoses and related deaths, thought to be linked to a group of designer drugs called synthetic cannabinoids that mimic the chemicals in marijuana, known on the street as Spice or K2. One doctor described “atypical overdoses,” patients with breathing difficulties and constricted pupils who responded well to the opioid overdose-reversing drug naloxone, and then required sedation for acute agitation, violence and hyperactivity, all unrelated to opiate withdrawal.
The physicians believed that knowing which drugs were in use might help tailor patient treatment.
