APACC Policy, Steering Committee & Late Skate Updates
Update on Late Skate: The September 25th Late Skate event was a roaring success. Over 300 people attended the event. Thank you to Richard Trent (Friends of Anacostia Park), Akiima Price (National Parks Conservation Association) for organizing the event! Elders were able to have their stories of Anacostia Park recorded. Richard will share the video after the third Late Skate event and producing wraps.
Membership Approval: The APACC Steering Committee voted to approve membership for the Friends of Incarcerated People and Capital Recreation Youth Sports Program. Vaughn Perry (11th Street Bridge Park) recommended that we take another look at the membership process and retention, and that if organizations are going to be a member, they should attend meetings. Philip Pannell (The Anacostia Coordinating Council) shared that there should be a more vigorous effort to bring in new members and civic associations and volunteered to contact lapsed members.
Climate Change and Equity: The APACC Policy Working Group recommended a panel discussion on Climate Change and Equity with Melissa Deas, HSEMA, Victor Ukpolo, DOEE, Kate Hudson, DOEE. The Committee agreed to hold a series of panels on climate including at the upcoming APACC General Meeting on November 19th.
