APACC Steering Committee Updates

On Friday, February 4, 2022, members of the APACC steering committee met to discuss upcoming events and other areas of strategic focus including Re-imagining Anacostia Park, membership recruitment, and Ward 8 redistricting:

Meeting with Mayor’s Chief of Racial Equity
The steering committee agreed to schedule a meeting on February 22, 2022 at 2 pm with Dr. Amber Hewitt. The topic of discussions will be ethnic tours and spatial de-concentration.

Update on Mayoral Candidates’ Forums
Anacostia Senior High School has been secured for the April candidates forums. A walk through is scheduled on February 17, 2022 at 10:30 am. We are considering using the same space for a at-large candidate’s forum on May 20, 2022.

Meeting with Director of Office of Planning | Director Cozart
The steering committee approved having schedule a special meeting during the month of March to accommodate Director Cozart’s schedule.

Update on Re-Imagining Anacostia Park
A meeting was scheduled with National Park Service Superintend Tara Morrison to meet with APACC to discuss community engagement as it relates to Re-Imagining Anacostia Park. The meeting has been postponed and we are awaiting a new date.

Civic Associations and Recruitment
The steering committee agreed to recruit civic associations around Anacostia Park to become members.

Update on Ward 8.6
APACC will make concerted efforts to connect with our new neighbors in Ward 6 that have now become a part of Ward 8. An invitation will be extended to groups and residents to become members of APACC.
