DC Mayor Muriel Bowser Signs Omnibus Crime Bill Into Law
From ABC 7News:
D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser signed the Secure D.C. legislation late Monday afternoon in front of a room of supporters.
The legislation has around 100 provisions aimed at curbing crime, including expanding the definition of carjacking, expanding penalties for gun crimes and implementing drug-free zones.
Mayor Bowser said the D.C. Council separated a portion of those provisions, including the creation of drug-free zones, to go into effect immediately upon her signature.
"MPD has for the last several weeks been analyzing data," Bowser said about drug-free zones. "I know the chief will make some decisions based on that data on where to deploy that tool immediately," Bowser said.
