At the far downstream end of the Anacostia River, the opportunity for a restored river comes into sharp focus.

Just before its confluence with the Potomac, at what was once the site of a truly sustainable Nacotchtank culture, our modern culture can envision a tale of two futures.

In the sediment and on the land, the residue of a careless past is evident. But also apparent is a new awareness of the many-faceted benefits of an endeavor toward sustainability and ecological restoration.
