Food Forest at Langley Elementary
From DDOT Urban Forestry:
The primary focus of the Langley Elementary School Food Forest was to work with the school and surrounding community to design and plan an outdoor classroom via a Food Forest. This was achieved with several school and surrounding community meetings where input was invited and indeed vital to the outcome of this project. Many hours were spent working with the community and school officials to design a project that was tailored to their vision. Forested, LLC, in conjunction with DDOT staff, initiated the project installation under this project phase. Ultimately, the work was completed during phase II when additional grant funds were available from a USFS application approved in July 2020.
The Langley Elementary School food forest design redeveloped a large, steep, erosive bank between the school building and the Harry Thomas Recreation Center. This was a marginal space and seldom used due to its topography.
