Join William Penn House as we welcome members from DC Urban Greens, a nonprofit organization striving to offer affordable, nutritious produce to residents in Southeast DC.
William Penn House has partnered with DC Urban Greens for several years for both educational programs and resource-sharing--DC Urban Greens uses the second floor of our carriage house as a seeding center, growing seedlings to transplant to their farms! We are excited to invite DC
Urban Greens as our speakers for the month of May, especially as this is the season of new plant life and delicious produce.
As usual, F/friends will gather at 6:30pm and are encouraged to bring a dish to share (make it local, if you can!). See you then!
About Our Speaker
Jacquana McIntyre, a born and raised Washingtonian, has been a Garden Manager for DCUG since June 2015. Her love of outdoors, kind nature, and great attitude has made her a true asset among the members of DCUG. Jacquana enjoys the taste of freshly picked carrots and experimenting with different vegetables in her meals. When she is not working you can find her playing with her son, Monte, or whipping up a delicious dishes.
DC Urban Greens aims to "feed bodies and nourish minds" by increasing accessibility of affordable healthy foods to residents of food desert neighborhoods in DC. Using underutilized land to produce local food allows DC Urban Greens to provide food to neighborhoods that need it most - low income areas lacking easy access to grocery stores.
