Tell the DC Council to Officially Designate 2018 as the Year of the Anacostia - and Support Groups who are Improving the Corridor

The DC Council is going to hold a hearing at 11:00am on January 11th to decide on whether to officially declare 2018 to be the Year of the Anacostia.
Besides officially naming the year, you may wonder how this affects you. Well, the official resolution includes the language that says “The District of Columbia government should identify resources and policies that create opportunities for recreation within the Anacostia watershed, ensure sustainable development on and along the Anacostia River, and continue improvements to the water quality of the Anacostia River.”
This could mean that groups in the Anacostia River corridor may be able to access more resources and funding to do good work in 2018.
You can sign up for the hearing to let the Council know what you think.If your organization is considering testifying, you might want to consider asking the Council to slightly amend the resolution to encourage more resources not only for “recreation, sustainable development, and water quality”, but also additional programs for education, health, culture, skills development, and so on.
Persons representing an organization will be given five minutes to speak and persons representing themselves will be given three minutes. Persons wishing to speak are asked to bring copies of their statements, as well as email a copy to the committee staff. Statements will also be accepted for the record without oral presentations.
The meeting will also be about the Anacostia River Sediment Project.
