East of the River Casehandlers meeting, Friday, June 29: The quarterly meeting takes place Friday, June 29 at 10:00 am at the Anacostia Neighborhood Library; all are invited. Two community-based organizations—Hire From D.C. (William Shelton, Executive Director) and The National Re-entry Network for Returning Citizens (Courtney Stewart, Chairman/CEO)—are featured and reps will discuss what they do. The East of the River Casehandlers is a group of legal services providers that was organized to meet every three months east of the Anacostia River to share program information and discuss strategies for dealing with issues of common concern to our low-income clients in Wards 7 and 8. The quarterly meetings are opportunities to share informational resources to strengthen client communities. Meetings are open to all, and all advocates, including community members, are encouraged to attend.

Programming changes at WAMU: Earlier this month, WAMU announced programming changes. The changes started Monday,  June 25. The good news is that local original reporting and programming is not affected so don’t delete contact information for Martin Austermuhle, Kojo Nnamdi, and others. What to Do After Your Summer Internship Ends, July 12:

You’ve had an enriching summer interning in Washington, DC. What’s next? Join us for a panel discussion with recruiters, former interns and entrepreneurs as they discuss some of the biggest issues facing interns today. Learn about resources and perhaps make a connection or two.

The Pod Shop to train and support podcasters in the DC region: WAMU has launched The Pod Shop, “a three-month initiative that will train, support and promote local podcast producers. The program will select up to five creators to participate in twice-weekly sessions during which they will receive creative guidance, a $2,500 funding award and assistance in developing their material into one or more pilot episodes, which will be distributed in a single podcast feed via WAMU.” Applications are due July 6.

Social Sector Networking Night: Interns Save the World, July 18:  

Interns are the future workforce of the social sector-they're going to save the world one day! Join other "super hero" interns for a networking happy hour at Mission in Dupont Circle. Learn about resources and opportunities from your peers, forge potential collaborations or just enjoy stimulating conversation with other aspiring social sector professionals.

 

Tools and Resources

Use this database to view summaries of 3 million tax returns from tax-exempt organizations and see financial details such as their executive compensation and revenue and expenses. You can browse IRS data released since 2013 and access over 9.6 million tax filing documents going back as far as 2001.
