Anacostia Park and Community Collaborative (APACC) has been leading the discussion about meaningfully engaging and including diverse voices in decision-making on important issues like climate change, land development and resilience.

2017 East River JazzFest - Come to a performance in the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens this Sunday

Please join Friends of the Kenilworth Aquatic Garden (an Anacostia Park and Community Collaborative member) at the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens for a live jazz performance this Sunday at 10am, featured as part of the 2017 East River JAZZFest.

Mystical Monk, presented by Charles Rahmat Woods Duo, will perform in the Gardens located at 1550 Anacostia Ave NE.

Announcement: Anacostia River Sediment Project Stakeholder Meeting

Several APACC member organizations have been working with the District Department of Energy and Environment and the National Park Service to plan the first of several planned public meetings to discuss the Anacostia River Sediment Project, which will determine the future of the contaminated sediment at the bottom of the Anacostia River.

The first of these meetings has been scheudled for Wednesday, June 21st, from 10:00AM-12:00PM (registration and refreshments at 9:30AM).

The wider the gap between rich and poor, the more the environment suffers

A recent report flips the common narrative that says that climate change “exacerbates social and economic inequality,” and instead argues that inequality can itself drive climate change. The report, by Susan Holmberg of the Roosevelt Institute, shows that “unequal societies inflict more environmental damage than more economically even societies.”

Pepco Benning Road Community Advisory Group meeting tonight

The Benning Road Community Advisory Group (CAG) has a meeting tonight, at 5:30pm to discuss the future of the Pepco Benning road plant. This monthly meeting is open to the public - please consider attending. All meeting dates are posted on Facebook (The Community Advisory Group: The RI/FS Benning Road Power Plant Study). The next meeting is scheduled for this Wednesday, May 24th at 5:30 pm at Educare DC.

Success! $4 million reallocated to clean up the Anacostia River in DC's 2018 budget.

Thanks to the hard work of many APACC members and other allies, the DC Council Committee on Transportation and the Environment responded to our requests during a meeting yesterday. The Committee shifted $4 million of the $5 million "missing" dollars back into the Fiscal Year 2018 budget for the Department of Energy & Environment to be able to clean up the Anacostia River and stay on schedule for completion of a remedial plan in mid-2018.
